Flat Set For Fox

When trapping fox in a dirt hole set is not always the best set. Sometimes changing up what set you are using to be a flat set may make all the difference in success.

A flat set for a fox is a blended set or in other words, when you are done putting in the trap you should not be able to tell where it is. Spread a light covering of grass or similar dirt over the trap so you can’t see where you have been being in the trap.

Fox Flat Set Quick Tips:

  • Remove extra dirt from the trap area and save blending materials off to the side.
  • Make as little disturbance when burring your trap.
  • Make hole you intend to bury the trap in and bed the trap so it does not wobble.
  • Blend the buried trap with grass, leaves, dirt, or other natural-looking items from the area. Not too much to make the trap not work.
  • Use bait, lure, or urine on this set, or any combination of the three
  • Bait and lure can be placed in a small hole made with a steak
  • Adding fox scat to the set may help the coyote feel more comfortable.
  • This set can work for furbearers such as fox, coyote, bobcat, and badger.

  • You can use a foothold trap on a flat set such as the MB 450 for fox or the MB 550 if you have lots of coyotes. Check out our article about MB 450s.
