This pack basket is 18 inches deep and can carry a good 60 lbs. It would be helpful for hauling traps and trapping equipment.

One use may be for large fishing trips. It will allow you to carry a heavy load of fish or fishing equipment.

Pack Baskets for Trapping

Pack baskets have a variety of uses and can be better than backpacks in many outdoor adventures. One of the most common uses of a pack basket is for trapping.

When trappers need to carry traps on a hike or down the trapline a backpack will not work. Traps are hard and bulky and don’t fit nicely into a pack.

A pack basket can give a harder surface between your back and the traps. This will make hiking more comfortable so you are not getting jabbed in the back by traps.

They are also very hard on the fabric due to some hard edges where the trap can rub and over a short time tare holes in normal backpacks. The harder pack basket slows the wear of the traps on your pack.

When making trapping sets with a pack basket it is also nice because the trap will not get tangled in the fabric of the pack. This allows you to access your equipment like a bucket and not have to dig through a flimsy pack.

Pack Baskets for Fishing

If you are catching a lot of fish it can be handy to have a pack basket to carry all those fish. For fishing, I would use a pack basket that is waterproof or that has a pack basket liner in it.

The straps on these pack baskets are not meant for long-distance packing and may need to be adjusted. You may try this more comfortable strap option.

Pack baskets can also be very helpful for carrying bushcraft equipment. They can hold a lot of gear and can be useful around camp for carrying firewood, food, or other equipment.
