Flat Set For Coyote
One of the most common sets to use when trapping coyotes is a flat set. A flat set is used to break up the use of a dirt hole set and hopefully make a set that is blended into the surroundings.
A coyote should be able to find a flat set based on the lure and urine you use at the set. The attractor may be placed in a tiny hole or on or under a log or rock.
This video will show you a lot about how to build a flat set for coyotes. Remember a flat set is well blended and usually has smells on it that attract coyotes.
What Is A Flat Set?
A flat set is a common trapping set that trappers use to catch coyotes. It is made by burying a foothold trap in the ground and blending it to look like the surrounding area. Then lure or bait is placed near the trap in a small hole or on a rock to attract a coyote to the location so it can get caught in the trap.
Coyote Flat Set Quick Tips:
- Remove extra dirt from trap area
- Make as little disturbance when burring your trap as possible
- Make hole you intend to bury the trap in
- Blend the buried trap with grass or dirt from the area
- Use bait, lure, or urine on this set, or any combination of the three
- Bait and lure can be placed in a small hole made with a steak
- Adding coyote scat to the set may help the coyote feel more comfortable.
- This set can work for other furbearers such as fox trapping, bobcat trapping, and badger trapping.
